SPEC OPS

Special Ops Paintball

I found this mad site through a co-worker who sent me an e-mail with a picture of a "paintball tank" on it. It was one of those weird things on the web kinda e-mails, but I was looking at this thing thinking that I could do some mods to my CJ-5 jeep and . . .

The Razorback Paintball Tank - Ever wanted to be a paintball god? After ten minutes behind the guns of the Razorback, you'll start believing you are.

Built on the chassis of an Israeli fast-attack vehicle, the Razorback makes paintballers run like the devil himself was coming.

With a five thousand-round hopper and twin Tippmann A-5 Double Trouble Gatlins, the Razorback cruises at the eye of a hurricane of paintballs. The turret-mounted Double-Ts crank out 30 rounds per second of pure, roaring, paintball mayhem. With each crank of the guns, the gunner rips out eight shots. The point of aim of the guns converges at about thirty feet. Pity the paintballer that stands in its path.

Ok, so despite the paintball tank, Special Ops paintball has some really cool stuff. They have some great rec-ball (now starting to be called WoodsBall - TM'd and everything) accessories and are big fans of the Tippmann makers, which I whole-heartedly recommend to new people we bring out.

I think I am going to be going through this site for awhile. Hmm . . . what to ask Santa for Christmas?

Scenario Paintball Games

Paintball Scenario Games are not new, but they have become the fastest growing type of Paintball game. Players, field owners, and sponsors have come to recognize the entertainment value of large scale, well-organized recreational games.

This guide is intended to give a description of the most common types of Paintball Scenario Games or PSGs, briefly explain their design and show ways to help you to play. If you have never played in a PSG, this guide may help you to understand what they are all about and maybe help you decide to try one.

Unlike Tournament play, there are really no losers in a PSG. No matter who won the scenario, both the victors and the vanquished go home satisfied. The thrill of victory in a PSG is real, but there is no loss of honor or respect in being on the losing side. Being there and enjoying the camaraderie and friendships of players from distant fields makes all the players winners. - from Paintball Scenario Game Operations

Primitive Action

US Civil War
North-South Skirmish Association, Inc.
The North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) was formed in 1950 to commemorate the heroism of the men, of both sides, who fought in the American Civil War, 1861-1865. The N-SSA promotes the shooting of Civil War firearms and artillery and encourages the preservation and display of Civil War materials. The N-SSA works to accomplish these goals by conducting skirmishes; competitive, live firing of these Civil War firearms and artillery.

The Texas Rifles
The Texas Rifles is a premier infantry unit specializing in a mid-to-late war Confederate impression. We stress the authentic and accurate portrayal of the average soldier of the day in the field. As a recruit, you will be trained as a private soldier learning the actual military drills and commands from the official manuals of the Confederate Army.

Nerf Wars

Some kids at a high school in Ohio have created their own pursuit game based on dart-shooting Nerf weapons. They've been playing for years and have even caught the attention of local police.

"The six-week rite of spring using Nerf dart guns as weapons has been going on for almost a decade, and students look forward to what they describe as harmless, challenging fun. The elaborate Rambo-style game of tag has become so popular that it dominates the lives of about 200 student players and is the daily talk of the school, starting the day after spring break ends."

The rules of Nerf Wars:

  • Teams consist of five players, who each pay $8 to get in the game. The last team standing splits the kitty after a small portion is given to a charity and judges are paid a nominal fee for expenses.
  • Players under age 18 are supposed to have a liability waiver signed by their parents.
  • Competition runs from midnight on Sunday through midnight on Friday.
  • Any kind of Nerf dart gun is acceptable, as are long sections of half-inch PVC pipe fashioned into blow pipes. Otherwise, weapons cannot be homemade or modified. Shields, such as garbage can lids, are illegal. Foam darts and homemade darts made of foam, rubber, glue and tape are legal, but cannot be weighted.
  • Players caught with guns, blowpipes or darts at Sycamore High School or at school-sponsored events are disqualified. Players cannot be shot while at work, but are fair game outside the building.
  • Destruction of private property is banned and is grounds for disqualification.
  • Blocking a team's car on a cul-de-sac or residential street is discretionary, but the player will be disqualified if caught disrupting the flow of traffic. Blocking of driveways is against the law, and calls for disqualification.
  • Players may not enter an opposing team's house, garage or screened porch without consent from a resident.
  • A team is disqualified if a player's family calls police on opponents who have not broken a law.
  • Players, their friends or relatives cannot block darts shot at a teammate.
  • A panel of judges is appointed each year to settle disputes and to preside over weekend shootouts between teams tied with the same number of players on Friday.

Killer

Killer as a concept has probably been around for a long time. Basically, it's a group of friends chasing each other around with a bunch of fake weapons.

Steve Jackson had the idea to put it into a book - I found it at the old Dungeon book and comic store when I was in middle school, and the rest was history.

Here's our "message board" from the old Killer days.
